How to be truly great
How to be truly great
We always love seeing our customers and fans at all the events we do throughout the year. Here’s a quick breakdown of all the events we’ll be at for the second half of 2016:
BROAM (https://broam.org/): July 9, 2016 – San Diego, California
The Broam is an annual event put on in San Diego, California that supports the local community. The Band Switchfoot is the lead performance, and the event is a total play on words, like a Pro-Am in golf, where they mix professionals and amateurs (usually celebrities or athletes), but this unique event mixes the ‘bro’s’ of San Diego with Amateurs (kids actually) and they award a prize to the best kid surfers. You gotta love the quirkiness of San Diego!! We’ll be in town setting up for various events around the BroAm.
Brofest in the UK! (http://www.brofest.co.uk/bands/) TBA – London, England
Speaking of bro’s This is an annual event held in the UK where a bunch of Bro’s get together and rock out with their socks out over the course of 3 days. We always love seeing these jabroni’s, and they’re always really friendly even though the mosh pits get pretty violent from time to time.
Annual Fresno Tree Service Awards (Fresno Ca- December 2016) Specific location and time TBA
This is one of our favorite events to do. A bunch of tree service companies in Fresno get together and award things like best company over all, highest grossing, biggest tree chopped down, fastest tree chopped down, best customer service, etc. to name a few. They are a cool group of hard working guys that have a lot of respect for the earth because they’re dealing with tree’s all day long. One of our favorite events to set up for. Read More →
I just wanted to share my thoughts for today.
As many of you know, business is an incredible struggle at times. There’s times where you feel like quitting. There’s time where to actually quit. But it matters what you do AFTER you fail.
But sometimes, things just don’t work out in your favor.
Sometimes we don’t get the contracts we want.
Sometimes our employees let us down.
Sometimes our vendors let us down.
Sometimes I let my employees down as well as my managers.
Sometimes I let my family down.
What matters is we keep on trying.
Keep on striving to get better.
If you have that mindset, you will be fine. If you stay motivated and hungry and wake up every day and do the things you needed to do for that day, you’ll have enough business eventually and be able to attend some of the best events in the country (if that’s what your business consists of.)
No matter how many times you fail or how much you struggle, just keep moving forward.
JUST NEVER GIVE UP.
I want to tell you a story of one of our employees. He used to have a major drinking problem. In fact he struggled with it for 20 years. His wife left him, his family was destroyed and he was out on the street. But you see, the key here is he struggled. He was determined to overcome. His addiction didn’t effect his work thankfully, but it effected his family life. Now after going to AA meetings, he’s been sober for 5 years.
But can you image?
20 years with the same problem. Failing over and over again.
And how he’s doing great! It’s just one story of glory that anyone can do anything and overcome.
So no matter what you’re going through, there’s always hope, and God’s grace is always with you, no matter what!
Stay hungry and motivated!!
“If you fall, get up try it again”
YEAH! Doesn’t that get you fired up!
Don’t ever let failure get you down.
Failure is the opportunity to learn. It builds character. It makes you into who you are. It tests your fortitude.
For example, when we lose a contract for a major event, what do we do? Do we cower away and quit? Hell no, we keep on fighting! We keep on putting in proposals. We keep on making calls. We keep on making connections and building relationships. We keep our heads up and keep moving forward. We strive to become a better business every day. I personally strive to take all the steps necessary every day to become a better entrepreneur. And I try to live day by day, always striving to achieve my goals.
Failure can be a discouraging thing. But the thing is that failure doesn’t matter. It’s how you respond to failure that matters.
Think about that for a second. These are two of the greatest human beings to ever grace the earth. They were the absolute best of all time. They both changed the world for the better.
And yet they both had a TON of failures in their lives.
What does that teach you about how to respond?
Always respond positively. Always get back up, like we showed in the video above. Always strive to correct your weaknesses. Always try to do better and be better. Never quit, regardless of how many times you’ve failed.
Thomas Edison ‘failed’ 10,000 times before he was able to create the light bulb.
Abraham Lincoln had multiple failed attempts at public office before he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of the United States.
Another story, to get a little spiritual on you:
In Jesus’s time, both Peter and Judas betrayed Jesus. They failed. But what happend to both of them?
Peter chose to repent, and he went on to become the First Pope and one of the greatest saints in church history.
Judas despaired, and he committed suicide by hanging himself.
Choose to learn from your mistakes.
Choose to respond with great fortitude to your mistakes.
And you will be successful!
As I reflect on what it takes to become even better than you are at being a business owner or entrepreneur, I think there are basically 3 quick things you can focus on (although you can really hone in on 7 highly effective habits of highly successful people if you have time to read the book.)
As we pointed out in our previous article, it is absolutely essential that you write down you goals, and that you make them SMART –
Goal Setting allows you a proper starting point. It allows you to gain clear vision on where you’re going, and allows you to develop a clear path and plan/ strategy to get where you want to be. This is the first step to becoming a better business owner.
As they say, leaders are readers. They say Warren Buffet reads multiple times per day. Bill Gates Reads daily. Online marketing specialist and multimillionare Tai Lopez speed reads a book a day. Seem extreme? Not really, considering how many negative messages there are out there trying to bring you down. Just like how a shower wears off after a day, you should be reading every day to keep your mind fresh and inspired.
Daily reading will definitely keep your mind right, and help you focus in on your daily goals. Unless you have someone in your ear reminding you of how great you are and how great you can be, you’re not going to be as successful as you can be.
Get into reading 20 minutes every day.
One of the best uses of your time as a small business owner would be going to inspirational conferences and seminars. You will learn from your peers and people more successful than you. You will come back inspired, fired up and with a ton of new ideas.
There are a lot of good things probably going on in your surrounding areas. One simple Google search for success seminars or just picking one of your favorite inspirational people Like Dave Ramsey or Brendon Bouchard should be a great start. Spend time and money on this because you will NOT regret it, ever. Even if you spend $1000 on a conference and you come back and have an idea that makes you $1001, it was worth your time. Even if not, it will make you a better person and a better business owner.
I know from personal experience that all of Mobil Stage Rental has benefited from me going to seminars. So if you have a team of employees to lead or you’re a solo-preneur, definitely make sure you’re going to at least 1 conference per year to renew and inspire you.
Bet you didn’t think this would make the list, huh? Unless you’re taking personal time, family time, and relaxing every week, you’re ‘batteries’ will not be charged and your ability to be a better business owner or entrepreneur will suffer as well .
People aren’t machines and we shouldn’t treat our selves that way. We are a delicate composition of body, mind and spirit and we should take time to renew all 3. Otherwise we can get stale. Our relationships suffer if we don’t spend time nurturing them. And that can carry over into work. And other areas of our life as well.
So my advice would be to take 1 day off per week. Take a walk in the park, take a hot bath, spend carefree time with family or friends, read a book for pleasure, exercise , pray take a quick day trip to the beach for crying out loud! Any time (a reasonable amount) is good time spent on yourself, because it will directly transfer into success and clear thinking as well as a recharged battery for you. And you need to be fresh every day to be at your best.
Those are the top 4 things I can think of quickly, does anyone have any other suggestions? Feel free to post in the comments below if you do!
As the owner of Mobil Stage Rental, I try to keep my employees motivated and inspired, as well as any other fellow entrepreneurs reading this blog. I try to stay up to date on personal development, and I hope you find these musings interesting and helpful. The first article I wanted to write on was about goals.
If you don’t know where you want to go, you certainly cannot devise a plan to move forward. Not setting goals is like setting out on a trip, with no real idea of your destination. If you are attempting to get fit, lose weight, grow a business, make more money, enhance your health, or whatever you plan on doing, goal setting will put you on the fast track of accomplishment.
Set aside some time in a quiet place with a clear and undistracted mind. Think about where you would like to see yourself at the end of a specific time period, for example 12 weeks or 6 months. Hopefully you will easily conjure up positive emotions. I like to do this in my office first thing in the morning to plan where our company is headed and where I am headed personally. When you imagine feeling good and the possibility of your good things actually happening, you’ll feel the energy and get excited about your future. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been down the night before, but then felt an incredible rush of positive energy by just sitting down, taking some quiet time, and thinking.
Now, you have to channel these positive feelings and attempt to turn them into powerful, specific statements.
Remember, dreams are things we wish for – things you enjoy thinking about but don’t know when or if they will happen. Goals, on the other hand, are specific things you have decided you need to accomplish within a clearly defined period of time.
